Comprehensive Intellectual Property Solutions for Businesses and Individuals
Jordan is a party to the principal international intellectual property conventions, and its domestic framework covers trademarks, patents, industrial designs, copyright and trade secrets. In practice, however, the value of a right in this market is decided less by the registration certificate than by how carefully the portfolio was built and how quickly it is enforced. Our intellectual property practice works on both sides of that line.
We file and prosecute trademark, patent and design applications before the Industrial Property Protection Directorate, handle oppositions and cancellation actions, and manage renewals and recordals for portfolios that span the region. For clients entering the market, we audit what is already registered, identify the gaps that a competitor could exploit, and set a filing programme that matches the commercial plan rather than a generic checklist.
On the enforcement side we act in infringement and passing-off proceedings before the Jordanian courts, pursue customs recordals and border measures against counterfeit goods, and advise on the evidence that actually persuades a Jordanian judge — which is rarely the same evidence that would be filed in the client's home jurisdiction. Where a negotiated outcome serves the client better, we say so and negotiate it.
Portfolios drift. Marks are used in a form that no longer matches the registration, classes are renewed that the business abandoned years ago, and assignments from founders or agencies were never executed. We audit for those gaps periodically, because they surface at the worst possible moment — in due diligence, or when a competitor's opposition puts the registration itself in issue.
